Remento Co-Founder and CEO, Charlie Greene, shares the story of the spark that led to creating the company and app known as Remento.

I feel it most strongly when I look at videos of the two of us from my childhood. He was the kind of man who would light up any room he walked into, always ready with a story. Those stories were his superpower, and there hasn’t been a day since we lost my dad just after my tenth birthday that I haven’t wished I could hear them. That’s why, when my mom got sick five years ago, I knew we couldn’t risk losing her stories, too.

But there was one problem: I had no idea where to begin. Without a better option, I pulled together a list of questions and family photos and sat down to interview Mom. By the end of that first conversation, I knew I'd never look at her the same way. I learned more about her than I ever knew there was to uncover–and more about myself with each story she told.

When I told others of my experience, I discovered that the problem I had solved with these conversations wasn’t unique. I spoke with dozens of people who desperately wanted to learn the stories of a loved one. But without a roadmap to turn to, they hadn’t taken action. That’s why I created Remento: to bring the solution that I created for my family to yours.

Over the last year, our team of professional storytellers, neuroscientists, memory researchers, and product experts have built a tool that makes it easier than ever to capture the stories of a family member through recorded conversations. The Remento app provides a simple set of steps designed to take the guesswork out of uncovering these precious reflections, including recommendations on what to ask, how to ask it, and in what order. Once captured, stories from these sessions are showcased directly in a private Remento library, from where they can be easily shared without any fancy editing or processing.

Looking ahead, we’ll be eager to integrate these stories into the foundation of a living, breathing family history. We imagine a private family library where these stories can be grouped, categorized, and easily explored - by person, theme, community, and more. Plus, we’ll be excited to embrace the momentum for further exploration with tools that inspire even more questions, more sharing, and of course, more stories.

At Remento, we think there’s more to understanding your family story than can be documented in crowded photo libraries, flat scrapbooks, and static family trees. We believe in the potential of the devices at our fingertips to become tools for connection across generations. And after two years plagued by so many missed moments with those we love, we think there's never been a better time to be reminded that learning starts with listening and that understanding our own story starts by understanding the stories of others.

Next up: Hear from Charlie, his mom, and others about their experience with Remento in this short video.

What’s a Rich Text element?

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!
